Sex with a Low Back Injury
When you are suffering from a low back injury, everything you do can be a struggle. Whether you are a man or a woman, you may not feel like being intimate because you are afraid of causing further injury. However, sex can be a great way to relax, since it releases powerful “feel good” endorphins. You need not be afraid, just a little bit careful.
A good way to determine what positions will work for you, is to ask yourself which is more comfortable: sitting or standing. If sitting is more comfortable for you, assume postures where you are supported, such as in a chair or propped up on pillows. If standing is preferred, leaning against a wall or lying flat on your back may work better. Use common sense and don’t test your back with positions requiring lifting or weight supporting. And if it hurts, listen to your body and find a more comfortable approach.
If all else fails, be creative and change positions often to avoid discomfort. You may discover a whole new way to enjoy time with your partner!
