I had not been able to sleep well for quite some time, I couldn’t sit for long and the nerve related discomfort in my legs and tail bone area was unbearable. I was unable to take anti-imflamitories due to stomach irritation. Having talked to Dr. Cairns, I was the perfect candidate for Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS).
Through the whole process and procedure the staff at Florida Spine Specialists was there to assist, help and guide me through each step of the way.
Dr. Cairns is kind and thoughtful and answered every question. With his knowledge, skills and the implant, I’m able to sleep better and move about without the agony I had. I can sit and work longer as well. I have started Fencing classes, which I love and have always wanted to do.
Yours Very Truly,
My first visit to the Florida Spine Specialists brought me to the Dr’s Blumberg and Dalton who, in turn, recommended me to Dr. Cairns after a series of epidural steroid injections did not help my suffering in the lower back and sciatic nerve in the right and left legs . This agonizing distress was caused by the formation of scar tissue from previous spinal surgery , a microdiscectomy, and further surgery would be of no help to me.
Dr Cairns suggested that I undergo an operation to implant a neurostimulator to alleviate my low back and leg discomfort. With some skepticism, I underwent a trial test with the stimulator which proved to be of help in treating my torment. I then decided this implant could help me!
After the surgery, much to my delight, the malady was indeed under my control and the comfort I felt was unbelievable. I could now return to my normal way of living! My special thanks go to Dr. Cairns for his expertise and knowledge in helping rid myself of a life of taking strong painkillers and a limited life style for the rest of my life.
I am writing to thank you for relieving me of 8 years of sciatic agony in the right thigh and buttocks. Subsequent to two back surgeries, I developed scar tissue that put pressure on the nerve, causing me varying levels of discomfort for the better part of 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Sleep was often interrupted by the continual throbbing.
When I came to you in December 2009 and you did the test implant, I was hesitant and somewhat skeptical, so I know that the wonderful results were not a placebo effect.
Since the permanent implant in January of 2010, I have realized 100% relief about 10% of the time; 90% relief 75% of the time and no less than 50% relief the remaining 15% of the time. I can’t express how wonderful it is to sleep through the night without being woken up just because I shifted my body and awakened by a nasty jolt.
Thank you and keep up the good work,
Herbert I. Horwitz
Passionate about my life and career as an Interior Designer and disappointed after post-laminectomy surgery, I unfortunately found myself virtually crippled with constant excruciating back and leg anguish. I was told that I had Fibromyalgia or Rheumatoid Arthritis and informed that I needed to live with permanent discomfort and find another career. Feeling misunderstood, misdiagnosed and undertreated after ten years, I had exhausted treatments options from physical therapy, cortisone shots to surgical treatments. My hopes were grim.
Finally I found Dr. Kevin Cairns specializing in managing exactly my kind of symptoms. Dr. Cairns suggested spinal cord stimulation with the EON Rechargeable IPG System. This small implant sends mild electrical pulses to mask discomfort in my lower back, legs and feet. First step was to have a seven day trial period. Reluctantly I agreed. Immediately the neuro stimulator relieved agony I had lived with for so long, improved my function and allowed me to return to work where other treatments and medications had failed. After the seven day trial I could barely wait the two week period to have my permanent implant.
I’m enjoying life once again dancing, exercising, walking, and shopping without the constant distress, as well as maintained my career as an Interior Designer.
I wanted to take a moment this morning to thank each of you that I came into contact with yesterday for your caring kindness, concern and attention to someone who can’t be anyone’s favorite patient.
I walked (read that hobbled ) in yesterday, stumbled out and woke up this morning with my life back!! Dr Cairns was of course the key to that but without each person who I came into contact with from Jason to Jaimie to Carrie to the staff at the desk, my experience would not have been as positive, supportive and healing as it surely was.
Before I begin my day that starts the rest of my life, I need to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to each of you who made me feel like a valued person not just another part in the assembly line.
Thank you for 1. saving my life by finding the AAA, and 2. making me pain free for the first time in years. We were impressed with you and your staff and their friendliness and professionalism. We do not have names, but please be assured that we did not encounter a negative from anyone from the front desk to the back. All of you were kind, gentle, friendly, reassuring and caring. There are not enough words to express our gratitude, so we hope that Thank You will suffice.

Want to thank you again, on behalf of my mother and myself for all of the very professional, concerned and compassionate medical and warm personal care that you have provided our family. She is doing well, with the expected pain and soreness at the site of the surgery but has already expressed an marked reduction of the chronic pain in her leg and thigh.
I had been suffering with back and leg distress that went beyond misery for months and it was getting more and more difficult to stand and walk. Getting the mail was challenging, forget about cooking dinner! I was really at my wits end. My internist recommended that I see Dr. Dalton at Florida Spine Specialists. His exam was very thorough and he spent a long time going over my films and explained things in a way I could understand. He recommended an injection to be done with x-ray to put medication into my spine.
The procedure was essentially painless and I started to feel better just days after. I was able to start physical therapy and have now been able to resume all my regular activities including my daily walks along the beach.
Thank you Dr. Dalton!!
Having been an athlete my whole life I was used to all kinds of aches, but never anything like this. I had just bent down to dry my foot after my shower and felt something give way in my back. Over the next couple of hours discomfort became agony and went down my leg. I could barely make it to the bathroom, and needed help from my wife to put on my clothes.
I tried a chiropractor my buddy suggested but that made it worse. I was luckily able to see Dr. Harold Dalton the next day and he really seemed to understand what I was going through. He was able to get the MRI done quickly and I was found to have a herniated disc in my lower spine. I was told surgery would fix the problem but I did not want to do that.
Dr. Dalton started a treatment plan that included medications, injections and exercise. This combination of treatment worked and I am back to playing golf twice a week and working out three times per week. I feel better than I have in years thanks to the team at Florida Spine Specialists.
I couldn’t get comfortable. I tried different pillows, massage and even acupuncture but my neck and shoulders were killing me. My job didn’t help; working in front of the computer hour after hour. Sometimes my hands would go numb and wake me up at night. It was unbearable. I was referred to FSS by the orthopedic surgeon who had repaired my rotator cuff and I couldn’t be happier. Dr. Dalton was able to quickly figure out that I had not one but 2 problems that needed to be treated differently.
I’m now back to doing things as I always have, and getting a good night’s sleep.
PS: The staff was Great; very kind and compassionate.
With Doctor Blumberg’s diagnosis and surgery, I managed to avoid living in a wheelchair, I will return to my job as a flight attendant and live a normal active life.
